I Remain

I Remain is an atmospheric point and click. The story is a usual one: you are one of the last human survivers of the zombie holocaust and you have to get out of the house really fast. The puzzles are logical, some of them pretty hard. There is a video walkthrough in case you don't know what to do next, but that won't happen very often. Good luck at running from those brain eating zombies!

Alice is Dead 2

Alice is Dead is a series of short point and clicks, with a scary but likeable atmosphere. In the first part, you barely found out who you are, and now you find yourself locked in a prison with a dead creature and the Mad Hatter nearby. The game is short and the puzzles are manageable. There is also a secret you can discover. The game looks pretty nice and just like in the previous part, the music is old and contributes a lot to the general atmosphere.

+ nice graphics and music
+ simple puzzles

- short, but this is only the second episode

! - the game

! is a short adventure game created by Ben Chandler in AGS. The monument of the city, a big ! sign has been stolen and you, !, Robot,  have to find the thief. Everything happens in 6 small screens and the puzzles are logical. It looks nice and it is funny. You can finish it in about 10 minutes, but it is worth playing.

Droppy :)

Droppy is a sad boy... Either a bird ruins his TV cable or a shark wants to eat him, he always is in some sort of weird situation. His sad face is heartbreaking and that's why you have to solve the problems to make him happy. There are 10 stages plus the final one, which is the most complex puzzle. Every situation is amusing and it won't take you too long to figure out the solution. The animations are as nice as in any PencilKids game but, fortunately, in this one  the character doesn't make an annoying noise whenever you solve the puzzle.

+ cute "hero"
+ it's good that you can solve the puzzles in any order you like

Click Play 2

Click Play 2 is a collection of fun mini-games, with a common purpose: finding and clicking the PLAY button. Just as the previous one, this game will test your reflexes, your intuition and your ability to think outside the box. The black and white graphics go perfectly with the retro tune. You might get stuck at some levels, but that's why there's a video walkthrough in the game. Good luck with  finding that tricky button.

Featherweight

The featherweights are scouts in a world ruled by powerful robots. They have no hope of ever being able to fight for their freedom. This is where you come in. You are Thadd, a young and rather foolish featherweight who goes to rescue a captured girl. You point and click your way to her, while also keeping out of the robots' sight. The puzzles are nice, some objects can be hard to spot, but if you search hard enough you'll find them. There is no walkthrough available at the moment, but it's not really needed either.

+ a bit of stealth is good in a point-and-click

A Dralien Day

What do dragons and robots have in common? Well, nothing, really... except maybe A Dralien Day, a game about a baby dragon who rescues his mother from bad robots. As usually, PencilKinds make strange games with somehow cute heroes. This is a point and click, but it has many mini-games, so it's quite interactive. The puzzles are easy, mainly because there's a circle around every clickable thing on the screen and you don't have to maniacally poke everything on the screen. A Dralien Day is short, but not less cute or amusing than Abuba or Retardo.

Gretel and Hansel

This might sound as the childhood story you all know, but the game keeps only the main plot of the tale. You are Gretel, the young girl who overhears her parents plotting to get rid of her and her brother. You decide to take matters in your own hands and start point-and-clicking to gather pebbles. There are puzzles to be solved and dangers are all around you. The game has a dark sense of humor (you can die by obsessively kissing a dying crow) and wonderful graphics. Everything was hand painted and scanned, something very rare nowadays. The game is a bit too short, but it's definitely worth while.

Submachine 6: the edge

The Submachine series now counts 6 point and click games. You are a nameless character wondering around in a deserted world, with strange machines that transport you to different places. Everything is as creepy as in the previous games, but this one is more logical and overall more payable. I didn't need to consult the walkthrough twice a minute, as I did in the other Submachines. "The edge" focuses most on hacking consoles in the right way rather than going aimlessly from place to place. It's probably the best of the series. I sure hope Submachine 7, which will be released in 2010, is as good as this one.

Machinarium

Machinarium is a point and click adventure game about robots. The most impressive thing about it is that everything is hand drawn, every background, creature or animation. The game feels a little post-apocalyptic, with all the rusty machineries and old robots. The abundance of details combined with the beautiful backgrounds make Machinarium a charming game. The puzzles aren't very hard, although to find usable objects you have to get close to them, which can be frustrating sometimes. There is also a hint book, with one hint available each level. However, to see the hint you must first win a mini-game (quite fun). Now, the least beautiful part about the game: it's not free. The game costs 15 euros, which is quite a lot, considering it only has 30 screens... The demo is available for download, but it is just a teaser - only 3 screens.

Awakener

Awakener is a short adventure game, created by Ben Chadler in AGS. You play as Fadi, a young boy in search of adventure and everything takes place along a single street. The game is funny and visually appealing. It's a rather short experience that leaves you asking for more.

Tortuga 3

The third part of the Tortuga series and probably the lengthiest. The game has the same nice graphics as the previous ones, but it has been improved in many ways. There are way more areas to explore, many objects, most of which are actually useful and there is an area where you can see 360 degrees wide. The story is the same: you try to escape from the pirates, this time you also want to steal their flag. In my opinion, this should be the last of the Tortuga series, but its creators think differently - there's a sequel scheduled, another one...

+ many explorable areas
+ nice graphics
+ it's available for download

- this pirate story is getting boring
- some puzzles are illogical
- the inventory sometimes blocks the playable area, making objects hard to spot

Abuba the Alien

Games made by Pencilkids are always "special", cute and a little bit disturbing. Abuba the Alien is no exception. In this point and click a young alien is lost on Earth and you must send him back home. The puzzles are very logical and easy to solve and in case you get stuck there's a walkthrough to help you. If you finish the game there's a reward waiting on Pencilkids.com.

Alice is dead (Ch 1)

A morbid point and click, with a sequel coming. With merry music on the background you find yourself at the beginning of Lewis Carroll's novel, except that something is wrong - Alice is dead. You collect objects and sometimes combine them to advance in the game. Finally you make an unexpected discovery which is the starting point of the sequel.

+ the puzzles are logical and usually easy to solve
+ there's a walkthrough available

- rather short game
- it might be disturbing for some people
- the background song can get on your nerves if you play for too long
